Pre-Cut Veggies Sold In Walmart, Publix, 6 Other Stores, Recalled Over Listeria Concerns

Picking up a package of pre-cut, pre-washed fresh vegetables at the grocery store can make preparing dinner (lunch or breakfast) a bit easier. Unless, of course, you could get sick from those convenient vegetables. Walmart, Publix, and six other retailers have recalled packages of pre-cut veggies over listeria contamination concerns.

Texas-based Country Fresh LLC announced over the weekend that it would recall 30,000 cases of fresh-cut vegetable products after finding the potential for a listeria contamination.

According to a notice posted with the Food and Drug Administration, the 45 varieties of veggies were shipped to retailers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia under the Country Fresh and store brand labels.

Retailers who received the products include Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, Harris Teeter, Quik Trip, BI-LO, Fresh Point, and Spinx Company.

The potential for contamination was uncovered as the result of a single routine sample taken at a retail store by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, Country Fresh reports.

The test revealed that the finished product tested positive for the bacteria.

Since then, the company has ceased distribution of the affected product as the FDA and Country Fresh continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.

The recalled product, packaged in clear plastic containers or in Styrofoam trays overwrapped with clear plastic film, can be identified by the “Best If Used By” dates between August 7, 2016 through August 19, 2016.

Country Fresh says it is unaware of any confirmed illnesses related to the recall.
