Bob Evans Restaurant To Close 27 Locations

If you’ve got a hankering for some Bob Evans food today, make sure to call first. The family restaurant chain closed nearly two dozen locations over the weekend, with more to come.

The company publicly announced the closures of 27 locations this morning, though 21 restaurants had already shut their doors for good on Saturday and Sunday. These eateries were on property owned by Bob Evans Farms Inc. The remaining six locations will cease operations later this year.

Bob Evans CEO Saedd Mohseni said the closures were made after a “comprehensive unit-level performance review” of the company’s 548 restaurants in 18 states.

“Decisions to close restaurant locations are always difficult,” Mohseni said in a statement. “Performance at each of these locations, despite the loyalty of valued guests and the efforts of our dedicated employees, was not meeting expectations.”

When possible, employees affected by the closures will be offered new positions with nearby locations, while severance payments have been offered to full- and part-time workers where relocation isn’t available.

The sale of the 21 stores on company-owned land is expected to earn Bob Evans Farms $20 million, and result in an annual boost of $1 million to the company’s bottom line.

Bob Evans did not provide a list of which stores have closed.
